BDSM ordered to take down sign

The Black Dog Saloon & Mezcalaria (BDSM) bar in Cork has been ordered to take down its main sign. Cork City Council have rejected the pub’s application to retain the large retro signage above its door.

The striking sign has provoked debate among Cork residents since the bar opened in 2013, with complaints over its considerable size and retro black and white style, as well as for its suggestive lettering.

One letter reportedly sent to the Council about the sign described it as “aesthetically vile”.

Pub owner Benny McCabe told Cork’s Red FM he was amused at offence over the sign’s sexual connotations, but said he would take down the sign as its size contravened the Council’s planning policy. The sign will be relocated to the pub’s beer garden.

What do you think of the BDSM sign? Should it be taken down? Or does it add to North Main Street?
